Olympic champion javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra will start the season with a star-studded Diamond League event on May 5 in Doha. Besides the 25-year-old Chopra, the defending champion who won the Diamond League Grand Finale last September, world champion Anderson Peters of Granada and Olympic silver medalist Yakub Wadlech will also feature in the season opener of the 14-stage one-day series. Due to injury, this Indian superstar could not play in the Doha 2022 Diamond League, where Peters also won the title with a distance of 93.07 metres, which was the 5th longest distance in history. World Championships bronze medalist Wadlech had finished second with a personal best effort of 90.88m. The Doha event will also feature European champion Julian Weber of Germany, former Olympic champion Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago (personal best: 90.16 metres), and former world champion and 2016 Olympic silver medalist Julius Yego of Kenya (personal best: 90.16 metres). 92.72m) are also going to challenge in the tournament.

The first Olympic gold medalist in track and field, Neeraj Chopra, has set his sights on achieving the 90-metre target this year. Chopra has said, "I am getting closer to the distance of 90 metres, so achieving this means a lot to me." He has said, "Last year was good for me; I won silver in the World Championship. Along with the medal, I did a personal best and won the Wanda Diamond League. This year is going to bring new opportunities. My target this summer is the Asian Games, along with the World Championships, and also to defend the Wanda Diamond League title.
