MUMBAI: Emerging triumphant from a challenging field that featured formidable competitors upon his return from injury gives Neeraj Chopra, India's Olympic gold medalist in javelin throw, a significant confidence boost. With his sights set on the upcoming World Championship in Budapest this August, Chopra aims to capitalize on this momentum.

To achieve his goal, Chopra is dedicating his efforts to reach his peak physical and mental condition before the World Championship takes place from August 19 to 27. The event will be hosted at the National Athletics Centre in Budapest, Hungary. Chopra secured a spot in Budapest as the Diamond League winner, receiving a wild card entry.

"My current focus is directed towards preparing for the World Championships in Budapest. At this juncture, I am striving to attain my optimal physical condition for the championship. Following an evaluation by my physio, we collectively believe that I am now ready to intensify my preparations for the World Championship," Neeraj conveyed during an interaction organized by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) on Monday.

Having previously claimed a silver medal in the last edition in Eugene, Chopra has a personal agenda for the World Championships. He aspires to surpass his previous achievement and clinch the coveted gold medal, adding to his triumphs at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 and the Commonwealth Games in 2018 held in Gold Coast.

Neeraj had a stellar start to his season by securing first place in the opening Diamond League event in Doha on May 5, with a remarkable throw of 88.67m, his fourth career-best. However, during the competition, he sustained a muscle strain, compelling him to withdraw from the FBK Games on June 4 in Hengelo, the Netherlands, and the Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku, Finland, on June 13 as a precautionary measure.
