NEET-UG 2024: SC to hear Fresh petitions regarding Exam cancellation today

The Supreme Court will hear new petitions today seeking the cancellation of the NEET-UG 2024 exam amid accusations of question paper leaks and demands for compensatory marks.

Earlier this week, the Supreme Court emphasized the need for stringent measures against any negligence in the administration of the NEET-UG 2024 exam. "Even the slightest negligence should be thoroughly addressed," stated a vacation bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and SVN Bhatti.

In response to the allegations, the Ministry of Education has called for a detailed report from the Economic Offences Unit of the Bihar Police regarding the reported irregularities during the NEET-UG 2024 exam in Patna. On Wednesday, the Ministry assured that all concerns about grace marks allocation have been resolved.

NEET-UG aspirants have voiced worries over the alleged leaks, compensatory marks, and inconsistencies in the exam questions. On May 5, the Supreme Court issued notices to the National Testing Agency (NTA), requesting a response within two weeks. These petitions, combined with earlier ones, are scheduled for a hearing on July 8.

Several petitions call for the annulment of NEET-UG 2024 results and demand a new exam due to concerns over paper leaks and malpractices during the May 5 exam. The NTA recently informed the Supreme Court that it would nullify the scorecards of 1,563 candidates who received grace marks because of exam disruptions, allowing them to retake the exam.

The NTA has scheduled the retake for June 23, with results expected by June 30. Despite these issues, the Supreme Court has refused to halt the ongoing NEET-UG 2024 counselling process.
