NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has rescheduled the hearing on NEET-UG 2024 irregularities to July 18, following concerns raised over alleged malpractices during the May 5 medical entrance examination. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has submitted a status report on its ongoing investigation to the court.

In response to the allegations, the central government filed an affidavit asserting that the NEET-UG 2024 exam did not witness widespread malpractice or any specific group of candidates unfairly benefiting, which could have led to unusual score distributions.

According to the affidavit, an analysis by IIT Madras found no substantial evidence of irregularities or biased score distributions. The government explained that score patterns resembling a bell curve are typical in large-scale exams and do not indicate anomalies.

Additionally, the Centre informed the apex court through a supplementary affidavit that counselling for NEET-UG 2024 will proceed in four rounds, beginning in the third week of July.

Earlier discussions in the Supreme Court expressed concerns about the exam's integrity, raising the possibility of a re-examination if leaks through social media are confirmed. The court emphasized accountability and requested the CBI to furnish a status report by Wednesday, prior to adjourning the hearing until July 18.
