KATHMANDU: Nepal Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba elected as Nepali Congress parliamentary party leader.
Nepali Congress President and Nepal Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has been elected the parliamentary leader of the party.
Sher Bahadur Deuba is widely seen as the next Prime Minister of the Himalayan nation from the ruling coalition. He is also challenged by the Chairman of the CPN (Maoist Center) Pushpa Kamal Dahal aka Prachanda.
Deuba received 64 votes to win the Wednesday election for the post of parliamentary party leader.
Party general secretary Gagan Thapa who had staked claim at the post was able to garner 25 votes.
The 89 newly elected MPs from the party participated in the voting for the parliamentary party leader.
With the win, Deuba will be the party's candidate for the post of Prime Minister in the new government.
