East Champaran: Nepal has stopped the construction work of the dam being built on the Red Bakaya River in Dhaka subdivision of East Champaran. Nepal is forcibly creating controversy by calling the dam construction site its territory. The western dam of the Lalbakeya River was damaged by the catastrophic floods in 2017, the repair work of which has been in the middle.

Local villagers allege that earlier Nepal and Indian officials used to sit and settle the case whenever Nepal was involved in the dam repair work. But this year, instead of resolving the matter, only the Nepalese Sashastra Seema Sentinel is engaged in further complicating the matter. During this time villagers of Banjaraha village of Nepal have also misbehaved with India's SSB. The dispute is between Pilar Nos. 345/5 and 345/7 depicting the border of India- Nepal on land of five hundred meters.

The district administration has informed about the situation by sending a letter to the Union Home Ministry and the state government, including the Consulate General of India in Nepal. Engineer Baban Singh of the Irrigation Department, who is doing the construction of the embankment, has said that the Government of Nepal has objected to the land of the dam about five hundred meters and the work has been stopped there. The construction of this dam will prevent floods in Dhaka and Patahi in East Champaran district. The villagers of Balua Guavari Panchayat are in a panic over the possibility of flood due to the ban on construction of the embankment. The villagers are angry over stopping the construction.
