Kathmandu: During India's visit to Kathmandu, Nepal's army chief will be given the title of 'General' of the Indian Army. On the official invitation of Indian Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane, Nepal Army Chief General Prabhu Ram Sharma departed for New Delhi on Tuesday for a four-day visit to India.
"On the official invitation of Indian Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane, Nepal Army Chief General Prabhu Ram Sharma departs for New Delhi for a four-day visit to India," said a Nepal Army spokesperson.
The President of India is expected to honour Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Sharma with the title of Honorary 'General of Indian Army' during his visit to India, according to Khabarhud. “Indian President Ram Nath Kovind will present him with the title on November 10, according to the NA Directorate of Public Relations. The awarding of the title of Honorary General to each country's Army Chief by Nepal and India is a "unique military tradition," as per report. Sharma will also meet with his Indian counterpart Naravane and other senior Indian Army officials during his visit.
Lieutenant General Prabhu Ram Sharma, the officiating Chief of the Army Staff, was promoted to General by Nepal President Bidhya Devi Bhandari in September. General Sharma is an alumnus of India's National Defence College and holds a Master's Degree in History from Nepal's Tribhuban University and a Master of Philosophy in Defence and Strategic Studies from the University of Madras.
