Jerusalem: The installation of a cardiac pacemaker will take place over the course of the night, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced in a brief statement on his Twitter account at around 1am on Sunday.

"I was fitted with a monitoring device a week ago. In a 36-second video clip, Netanyahu said, "That device beeped this evening and said I must have a pacemaker and that I must do this immediately tonight."

"I feel great, but I need to listen to my doctors," he continued.

Yariv Levin, the justice minister, will act as prime minister while Netanyahu is unable to, according to the Times of Israel. In order to participate in potential votes on the coalition's platform, Netanyahu hopes to be released from the Sheba Medical Center in Ramat Gan in time.

Netanyahu was taken to the hospital last Saturday after allegedly passing out at home. No mention of any loss of consciousness was made by his office; instead, they merely noted that the prime minister had felt "dizzy." The seasoned politician had attributed his decline in health to spending an afternoon in the sweltering sun at the Sea of Galilee "without a hat, without water," and advised his compatriots to do the same.

To monitor cardiac arrhythmia, doctors fitted Netanyahu with a heart implant before releasing him from the hospital after a battery of tests.

There are no known ongoing medical issues with the 73-year-old, and his doctors had previously declared his heart to be in "excellent condition." However, since 2016, his office has not provided the required yearly update on his health, and according to the Kan public broadcaster, several Israeli officials have voiced their displeasure at the lack of transparency.
