The head of Netflix India, Monika Shergill, had a crucial meeting with the Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Tuesday. The discussion, held at Shastri Bhawan, centered on the controversial web series about the hijacking of IC-814.

The meeting was prompted by concerns over the series’ portrayal of the hijackers. Government officials expressed that no one should compromise the sentiments of the Indian people, emphasizing the importance of respecting India's cultural and civilizational values.

According to government sources, the Netflix team arrived at the meeting with research documents and footage. They aimed to demonstrate that their series, titled IC-814: The Kandahar Hijack, was based on publicly available resources, including books and official statements.

The government has voiced concerns that the series might offend national sentiments and undermine the country’s emotions. In response, Netflix assured that it would review the content and ensure that future productions align with national sensitivities.

The ministry is seeking further clarification on the controversial aspects of the series, which depicts the 1999 hijacking of an Indian Airlines flight by the Pakistan-based terrorist group Harkat-ul-Mujahideen.
