As India’s entertainment market continues to grow, streaming platforms are vying for a bigger slice of the $28 billion industry. Recently, Apple inked a significant content deal with Bharti Airtel, marking its aggressive entry into the Indian market. Here’s a look at the leading streaming platforms shaping the country's viewing habits:

Disney+Hotstar: Dominating the Indian streaming scene, Disney+Hotstar holds a 26% market share. With around 38 million paid subscribers, the platform offers a rich mix of television dramas from Star, along with live sports including cricket, football, and tennis. Disney+Hotstar holds the digital rights for ICC matches in India until 2027. Subscription plans start at Rs.299 ($3.56) per month.

Amazon Prime Video: Following closely with a 23% market share, Amazon Prime Video caters to around 20 million users in India. It provides a vast library of movies, TV shows, and rental options. Access requires a Prime membership, which costs between Rs.299 per month and Rs.1499 per year.

Netflix: As a major global player, Netflix commands a 13% market share in India with about 10 million users. It offers a diverse range of movies, documentaries, TV shows, and animated content. Netflix’s monthly plans range from Rs.149 to Rs.649.

ZEE5: ZEE5, the streaming arm of ZEE Entertainment Enterprises, holds an 11% market share. It features content from Zee’s television channels and offers film rentals. Its subscription plans range from Rs.299 per month to Rs.1199 per year. Recently, a proposed $10 billion merger with Sony was called off due to unresolved issues.

JioCinema: Part of Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries, JioCinema captures a 7% market share. It provides a mix of TV shows and content from HBO and Paramount. Reliance’s merger with Disney has faced regulatory delays due to cricket rights concerns.

Sony LIV: Associated with Sony Pictures Networks India, Sony LIV has a 4% market share. It features content from Sony’s television shows and offers three subscription plans from Rs.299 per month to Rs.1499 per year.
