New Delhi:- Netflix already allows users to download ad-free games on Android and iOS phones and tablets. In the past, the company has said that it wants Netflix games to be playable on "all devices". Ahead of the official launch of the Netflix game on TV, the company has quietly launched the Netflix Game Controller application on iOS. It is also expected to be rolled out to Android phones later.

The app is free to download from the Apple App Store for iPhone and iPad. As the name suggests, the Netflix Game Controller app is essentially a virtual gamepad for playing Netflix games on the TV. Its App Store page says minimum app requirements include iOS 15 or iPadOS 15 or later. The description reads as follows:

"Coming soon on Netflix. Play games on your TV with a Netflix game controller. This game controller app pairs with your TV and lets you play games on Netflix using your phone or device your cell phone."

Netflix has been offering cloud gaming for quite some time (since 2021), although games are primarily developed for smartphones with modest specs. Netflix has been clear about making its titles available to a larger group of people. The games only require a Netflix subscription to play as they are ad-free. The streaming giant has also become more active in offering more cloud games. It recently launched titles like Laya's Horizon, World of Goo Remastered, and Spooky Oxenfree II:Lost signal.

The Netflix Game Controller app comes nearly five months after Netflix's Vice President of External Gaming, Leanne Loombe, said the company is in the "very early" stage of that journey. As reported by The Verge in March, Loombe indicated that Netflix is ​​proceeding cautiously in the cloud gaming sector, especially after the sudden departure of Google Stadia.

This cautious approach is also due to the challenges faced by Netflix and other game giants, such as hardware limitations (in this case, TVs or phones) and issues with potential lag when playing cloud games. Loombe's comments came as Netflix lost a large amount of money.

Recently, however, the company has taken drastic measures to increase its subscriber count. Netflix has begun expanding its password-sharing crackdown to other countries, including India. Despite the initial setbacks, Netflix believes the move will have lasting benefits.

As more people join its team, the company has more content to offer, including cloud gaming. Games could also be a big draw, as the company lacks the ability to broadcast live sports, something streaming companies like Apple and Disney have done.
