In the latest update, the Indian Navy has implemented a new dress code, following in the footsteps of pilgrimage sites, temples, courts, and CBSE schools. Previously, the Navy had 10 dress codes, but now it includes an 11th one. Indian sailors are now permitted to wear kurta-pajama, while female sailors can opt for kurta-churidar or kurta-palazzo. This move allows Indian Navy personnel to sport traditional Indian attire in the wardroom and officers' mess.

The proposal for this change has been officially approved. Brigadier Hardeep Singh Sohi, a Shaurya Chakra recipient retired from the army, shared details about the new dress code through a post on social media. The post featured a picture of the approved attire, comprising kurta-pajama and a jacket.

Accompanying the image was a caption detailing the new dress code for Indian Navy personnel in Officers' Mess. Notifications regarding the updated dress code have been circulated to all commands and institutions within the Navy, with immediate compliance requested.

However, adherence to the new dress code comes with certain conditions. As outlined in the notification, kurta-pajama should be worn with a sleeveless jacket and formal shoes or sandals. Female sailors are advised to pair their kurta with either churidar or palazzo, reserving this traditional Indian attire for festivals and officers' mess gatherings.

The kurta's collar may be open or closed, but it should feature a solid color. Its length should extend to the knees, with cufflinks on the sleeves. The pajama should resemble trousers, equipped with an elastic waistband and pockets. Women are encouraged to maintain Indian traditions when having their dresses tailored.
