Instagram, the popular social media platform, is gearing up to potentially launch a new feature called 'Blend'. This feature aims to provide users with a more personalized experience by allowing them to create a special, private feed for themselves and their friends. Instagram Reels, known for their short videos on various topics, have become a hit among users for connecting with friends.
A reverse engineer named Alessandro Paluzzi (@alext193a on X) was the first to notice this new feature. According to Paluzzi, the 'Blend' feature will curate a private feed based on the Reels shared between two users. A screenshot shared by Paluzzi revealed that this feed would be exclusive to the two users, who can opt out of it whenever they want.
Paluzzi shared this discovery on X (previously Twitter), stating, "Instagram is working on Blend: #Reels recommendations based on reels you've shared each other and your reels interests. Private between the two of you. You can leave a Blend at any time."
This upcoming feature bears resemblance to a feature on Spotify, also called 'Blend', introduced in 2021. Spotify's 'Blend' feature allows users to merge their favorite songs into a shared playlist. However, Instagram clarified to TechCrunch that the 'Blend' feature is currently an internal prototype and not being tested externally.
The new feature could potentially enable users to invite their friends to join the blended feed. Once accepted, users will gain access to a personalized feed that caters to the shared interests of both parties.
In light of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Meta, the parent company of Instagram, announced plans to establish an India-specific Elections Operations Centre. This centre aims to identify potential threats and implement necessary measures across Meta's various platforms in real-time. Meta stated that the India-specific operations centre will bring together experts from different departments within the company, including data science, engineering, research, operations, content policy, and legal teams.
