GENEVA: According to a UN source, a fresh session of the Syrian Constitutional Committee, which is tasked with drafting a new constitution for the war-torn country, will take place in Geneva in March.

"While logistics are still being finalised," Jenifer Fenton, Spokesperson for the UN Special Envoy for Syria, stated at a press conference in Geneva on Tuesday that the seventh session is planned for the week of March 20, 2022. She also stated that the Committee's eighth and ninth sessions will be held in May and June 2022, respectively.

As per reports, the Syrian Constitutional Committee, which includes officials from the Syrian government, opposition, and civil society, was officially formed in Geneva on October 30, 2019, to develop a new constitution in order to advance the country's peace process.

Six rounds of meetings have taken place in Geneva, but no significant progress has been made.
