TRIPOLI, Libya – Libyan Prime Minister Abdul-Hamid Dbeibah has declared that general elections will be held in June.

In a televised speech, Dbeibah declared, "The plan to restore people's trust will put an end to all current (political) structures, particularly the Government of National Unity.""I will not tolerate turning over (office) to chaos; I will pass it over through elections. Elections are the only way to solve the problem "he stated.

According to sources, the House of Representatives recently agreed to designate former Interior Minister Fathi Bashagha as the new Prime Minister. Dbeibah has stated that he will remain in power until an elected administration is formed.

According to the country's elections authority, general elections in Libya were scheduled for December 24 last year but were postponed indefinitely owing to technical and legal concerns.
