Starting today, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has put into effect the 'One Vehicle, One FASTag' rule. This rule is aimed at stopping the use of a single FASTag for multiple vehicles or connecting numerous FASTags to one vehicle, a senior official disclosed.

NHAI had previously extended the deadline for complying with the 'One Vehicle, One FASTag' initiative until the end of March. This extension came due to issues encountered by Paytm FASTag users.

"People with multiple FASTags for a single vehicle won't be able to use them anymore," stated the official report.

NHAI introduced the 'One Vehicle, One FASTag' initiative to boost the effectiveness of the electronic toll collection system and ensure smooth traffic flow at toll plazas. The goal is to discourage the use of a single FASTag for multiple vehicles or linking multiple FASTags to a single vehicle.

In the previous month, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had advised both customers and merchants of Paytm Payments Bank Ltd (PPBL) to transfer their accounts to other banks by March 15.

FASTag, operated by NHAI, is an electronic toll collection system in India. It has significantly transformed the country's toll collection system, boasting a penetration rate of nearly 98% and over 80 million users. FASTag utilizes Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to enable toll payments directly from linked prepaid or savings accounts or directly to the toll collector.
