Germany is the highest-ranked country in Europe for its COVID-19 response

Earlier in a survey, Germany was found the best ranked European country which states how their respective governments have handled COVID-19 in their nation and citizens. The study by the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) analyzed 19 countries and inquired citizens to rate key elements of their government’s reaction to the health emergency. Countries that performed well contained South Korea and South Africa other than Europe while Brazil where President Jair Bolsonaro has played down the pandemic - Sweden and Poland scored low. Overall ISGlobal study found that higher-scoring countries were primarily located in Asia while lower-scoring countries were established in Latin America and Europe.

When lead author Dr. Jeffery Lazarus of ISGlobal was asked about the questions which were asked in the survey he said "We asked questions about the measures taken to protect the population, we asked about access to COVID-19 test where many countries like Spain scored quite low, "Overall countries were found to have performed well on recognized international cooperation, such as with the World Health Organization, but were fared badly when it came to expressing mental health service availability during the pandemic.

Across the board, many countries scored low in the survey which means governments or all sorts need to do a better job of explaining control measures," said Dr. Lazarus. In Spain, respondents to the survey were extremely critical about a lack of access to free and reliable COVID-19 testing in case of symptoms. Meanwhile, in the UK, the survey found that thegovernment was scored low for ensuring healthcare workers were given personal protective
equipment (PPE).
