The NIA, registered the case in 2011, invigorated its investigation recently.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has Syed Shahid Yusuf in custody, the son of Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin. He will be arrested soon, said a senior NIA official.

The detention comes a day after the Centre announced the appointment of a special envoy to carry forward the channel of communication in Jammu and Kashmir.

A government official told the reporters that Yusuf who works in the agriculture department of the J&K government was under arrest as his name brought up in a 2011 case registered by the NIA pertaining to terror funding.

The investigations exposed that one of the accused Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, based in Syria, allegedly transferred funds to Yusuf on the directions of Salahuddin.

“The money was sent between the year 2011-2014 and it was used for terrorist activities in the Kashmir Valley,” said the official.

NIA invigorated the investigation recently, even though the case is under trial in a city court.

Four persons related to this case were arrested earlier — Ghulam Mohammed Bhat, Mohammad Sidiq Ghanaian, Ghulam Jeelani Liloo and Farooq Ahmed Dagga.

Rest of Two, Mohd.  Maqbool Pandit and Aijaz Ahmed Bhat are running away.
