Kochi: NIA has made a big disclosure in Kerala's gold smuggling case. NIA has found a link between an accused in its investigation and India's most wanted underworld don Dawood Ibrahim Kakaskar and his gang. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has revealed that an accused in the case had travelled to Tanzania, where David, accused of 1993 Mumbai blasts, has a good network and wants to smuggle diamond and weapons. This was disclosed by the investigating agency in a special NIA court.
Talking to media, an NIA official said, "K.T. Ramiz and M. Sharafuddin travelled to Tanzania on several occasions and met Dawood's close aide Feroz Oasis. In the meantime, they discussed ways to smuggle arms into the country. The official said that Ramiz had travelled to Tanzania in 2016 to start the diamond business. He also smuggled one kilo of gold from Tanzania to UAE in 2017.
The NIA official said that Ramiz was apprehended with 13 smugglers at Kozhikode Airport in November 2019 while returning from Dubai. Ramiz was alleged to have supplied guns for the Palakkad Rifle Club. However, the allegation was denied by the Rifle Club.
