Dehradun: The NIA team arrived in Dehradun on Monday along with Haris Farooqui, the alleged head of ISIS in India, who was recently arrested in Assam. Farooqui's family resides in Singhal Mandi, Dehradun. Upon the NIA's arrival, Uttarakhand intelligence agencies heightened their vigilance.

Intelligence agencies continuously provided updates to the Intelligence Headquarters regarding Farooqui's presence in Dehradun. According to police sources, Farooqui purportedly joined ISIS while studying at Aligarh Muslim University, where he was radicalized by the organization.

Farooqui reportedly came into contact with ISIS shortly after enrolling at Aligarh. Last year, two individuals associated with this terrorist group were apprehended in West Bengal for vehicle theft. Subsequent investigation revealed connections to a terrorist module in Pune, in which Farooqui, also known as Haris Ajmal, was implicated.

Following this development, NIA, Delhi Crime Branch, and UP ATF launched active operations. Despite multiple raids, Farooqui remained elusive. NIA shared intelligence on Farooqui with Uttarakhand Intelligence and STF.

The NIA team subsequently arrived in Dehradun, where Farooqui's father, Ajmal Farooqui, was questioned by the STF in the presence of NIA officials. However, Farooqui's whereabouts were not ascertained. Ajmal Farooqui runs a Unani dispensary in the Municipal Corporation Complex on Faltu Line.

Sources indicate that authorities are now searching for Farooqui's local contacts in Dehradun following his arrest. On Monday, the NIA brought Farooqui from Assam to Dehradun, where they conducted inquiries with his family and close associates. The NIA team remained in Dehradun until late night, although local authorities did not provide official confirmation of their activities.
