New Delhi: Petrol and diesel prices remained unchanged even as crude oil prices eased. In order to give relief to the people from the price of oil, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had said that the government will now review the new tax imposed on crude oil, diesel-petrol and aviation fuel (ATF) every 15 days. Taxes will be reviewed every fortnight keeping in mind the international price.

Subsequently, in the past, the Central Government had decided to increase the yield profit tax on diesel and aviation fuel. Apart from this, the government had also decided to increase the tax on domestic crude oil. This change has also been implemented from September 1. This decision was taken by the government amid the uncontrollable price of crude. However, crude is currently running at a low level of 7 months.

He also said, 'We do not want to discourage exports but want to increase availability domestically.' If there is no availability of oil and exports continue with unexpected benefits, then it is necessary to keep some part for the countrymen also. A tax of Rs 23,250 per tonne has been imposed on domestically produced crude. Revenue Secretary Tarun Bajaj said that the new tax will also be applicable to SEZ units. But there will be no restriction on their export. Along with this, on the fall of the rupee, the Finance Minister said that the RBI and the government are monitoring the situation. The government is fully conscious of the impact of the rupee value on imports.
