On Thursday, BJP leader and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman addressed the workers of Tamil Nadu unit in an online rally. During this, she made sharp attacks on Congress. Describing the Congress as power-hungry, Sitharaman said that the Congress government had taken away their rights from the people on this day 45 years ago.

Union Minister recalled the Emergency imposed in the country on 25 June 1975, saying that it was implemented by the power-hungry Congress which lasted till 21 March 1977. Congress presented a big challenge in front of democracy by imposing emergency in the country. Sitharaman said that people's rights were completely taken away during the Emergency. Congress had taken such a step in the greed of power.

BJP leader alleged that people were tortured during the Emergency and many big leaders of the opposition were jailed. DMK government headed by the late Chief Minister M Karunanidhi was dismissed. Even the DMK leader, Mayor Chittibabu, could not withstand the torture in jail and finally, he died. Congress today talks about democracy but its courage is sad.
