Washington: Nissan has issued a recall encompassing 236,000 cars in the United States owing to a concerning flaw in the suspension tie rod. The affected vehicles fall within the Sentra compact car category, specifically spanning the model years from 2020 through 2022.

The tie rod, an integral component of the suspension system responsible for maintaining proper wheel alignment, has been identified as the focal point of concern. A defective tie rod can endure bending or fracture, leading to a dire consequence—potential loss of control for the driver.

Reports indicate that 11 instances of tie rods bending or breaking in the recalled vehicles have come to Nissan's attention. Notably, these occurrences have not resulted in any reported accidents or crashes.

Nissan has undertaken the initiative to replace the compromised tie rods in the affected vehicles without charging owners. The rollout of this vital fix is scheduled to commence in September 2023, with notifications reaching out to owners to ensure their awareness of the recall.

This recall follows a string of other recalls for Nissan vehicles. In June 2023, the company recalled 1.7 million vehicles due to a malfunctioning airbag inflator, while April 2023 saw a recall of 1.2 million vehicles stemming from a problematic power window switch.

Notably, Nissan has been subject to criticism and scrutiny for its handling of recalls in recent years. In 2019, the company settled a class-action lawsuit for $1 billion, addressing concerns about its recall management approach.

Safety advocates have voiced their reservations about Nissan's response time when it comes to promptly recalling vehicles upon identifying safety-related defects.

A few guidelines for staying informed about recalls include:
