Rio Olympians Nitendra Singh Rawat and Jyoti Gawte also won the men's and women's titles respectively at the Aegis Federal Life Insurance New Delhi Marathon here on Sunday. Six male runners have meanwhile also achieved the Athletics Federation of India's (AFI) standards for the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.
Nitendra Rawat kept the lead from the start and won the full marathon title with an impressive timing of 2:16.05 (2 hours, 16 minutes, five seconds). Anish Thapa Magar (2:16.41) and Anil Kumar Singh (2:16.47) have managed to finish second and third respectively. Jyoti Gawate won the women's full marathon title but her timing of 3:01.20 is not going to be enough to qualify for both the sporting events later this year. Nupur Singh (3:16.03) and Disket Dolma (3:22.06) were the other two athletes to reach the podium.
The AFI has fixed 2:18:40 (men) and 2:38:19 (women) for the Commonwealth Games to be held in July-August, while the timings for the Asian Games to be held in September are 2:18:48 and 2:18:48 respectively. is 2:39.28. Ashish Kumar (2:17.04), AB Belliyappa (2:17.09) and Kalidas Laxman Hirave (2:18.14) were the other three male runners to have completed the marathon in less than the qualifying time.
