NEW DELHI: During the NITI Aayog meeting on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the vision of transforming India into a developed nation by 2047. He stressed that this goal is a shared aspiration among all Indians and urged states to actively contribute, given their close ties with the people.
At the ninth meeting of the NITI Aayog Governing Council, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel outlined the state's ambitious plan to become a USD 3.5 trillion economy by 2047. The meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, took place at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre in New Delhi.
Patel presented the "Gujarat@2047 Dynamic Document-Roadmap," a strategic plan designed to align with the Prime Minister's vision of a developed India, or "Viksit Bharat." This roadmap focuses on improving the state's quality of life and economic prosperity through the pillars of "Earning Well" and "Living Well."
A key component of this initiative is the establishment of the Gujarat State Institution for Transformation (GRIT), a think tank similar to NITI Aayog. GRIT aims to implement the roadmap’s goals systematically. Patel also emphasized the support for the underprivileged, youth, farmers, and women, aligning with the Prime Minister's "GYAN" approach.
Despite comprising only 5% of India's population, Gujarat contributed 8.3% to the country's GDP in the 2022-23 fiscal year. Patel highlighted the state's achievements in various sectors, including PM Gati Shakti, health, Nari Gaurav Niti, millet cultivation, natural farming, digital agriculture, MSME support, and Amrit Sarovar. He outlined future plans and stressed that a self-reliant India ("Atmanirbhar Bharat") is essential for a developed India.
A notable announcement was the establishment of India's first semiconductor chip manufacturing plant in Gujarat, marking a significant step towards semiconductor self-sufficiency. Patel also underscored the importance of advancements in semiconductors, blockchain, and AI in building a skilled workforce for the future.
Gujarat is also focused on enhancing its solar energy initiatives, with rapid progress in its Solar Rooftop Scheme and the development of the world’s largest hybrid Renewable Energy park in Kutch. Patel highlighted the state's success in agriculture, with over 4.3 million farmers trained in natural farming methods. Under PM Modi's leadership, India is on track to become the third-largest global economy, with Gujarat playing a crucial role in this development.
