New Delhi: In the third Niti Aayog innovation index, Karnataka, Telangana, and Haryana were named as the top three states among large states.
The India Innovation Index 2021 by Niti Aayog assesses subnational innovation ecosystems and capacities. The index, which was unveiled by Suman Bery, vice chairman of Niti Aayog, in front of Parameswaran Iyer, CEO, on Thursday, was modelled after the Global Innovation Index.
For the third consecutive year, Karnataka topped the ranking. India Innovation Index's first and second iterations were released in October 2019 and January 2021, respectively.
An official release said that by utilising the framework of the Global Innovation Index, the third edition broadens the scope of innovation analysis in the nation (GII).
With the introduction of 66 unique measures, as opposed to the 36 indicators used in the previous edition (India Innovation Index 2020), the new framework gives a more nuanced and complete outlook for gauging innovation performance in India, it said.
To compare the performance of the states and union territories, they were classified into "17 Major States," "10 North-East and Hill States," and "9 Union Territories and City States."
As the world grapples with the COVID-19 pandemic this year, the significance of innovation is even more greatly felt. While innovation has always been pivotal for higher productivity and economic growth, it is also crucial for bolstering a post-crisis economy.
