New Delhi: After Nitish Kumar's resignation as the Chief Minister of Bihar, the Congress party has likened him to a "chameleon" and accused him of betrayal, stating that the people of the state will never forgive him. The party contends that this political move is a staged drama to divert attention from Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.

Jairam Ramesh, Congress's General Secretary for Communications, expressed in a Hindi post on X, "Nitish Kumar, who frequently changes political partners, is giving tough competition to the chameleons in changing colours. People will never forgive this expert of betrayal. It is quite clear that the Prime Minister and the BJP are scared of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, and this political drama has been created to divert attention from it."

Nitish Kumar submitted his resignation to Governor Rajendra Arlekar, who accepted it and requested him to continue as the caretaker CM until a new government is formed. Nitish Kumar is expected to stake claim to form the government with the support of the BJP.

Speaking to reporters in Patna, Kumar explained, "I have resigned as the CM and have asked the Governor to dissolve the present government." His decision to step down ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, scheduled for April-May this year, has dealt a significant blow to the Mahagathbandhan government in Bihar and the Opposition bloc INDIA, which comprises 28 political parties aiming to challenge the BJP-led NDA in the 2024 general elections.
