One of the most critically acclaimed films was recently released by actor Nivin Pauly in the film 'Mothon' starring lyricist Mohandas. After winning several awards at national and international film festivals, the film has achieved yet another prestigious award.
The film won 3 awards at the recently held New York Indian Film Festival. Nivin Pauly won Best Actor Award, Mothon won Best Film and Sanjana Deepu won Best Child Actor Award. The New York Indian Film Festival began on July 24 and concluded on August 2, 2020.
Mothon, directed by Geetu Mohandas, is the first gay love story in Malayalam. The film follows the journey of a child who left his hometown many years ago under mysterious circumstances in search of his older siblings. The bilingual film was shot mostly on the islands of Lakshadweep where the story is based. The film starred Nivin Pauly, Roshan, Sanjana Deepu, and Dilesh Pathan in the lead roles. The film 'Mothon' marked Nivin's transformation into a versatile artist and made a bold statement, which was also welcomed by the Kerala audience.
