New Delhi: The National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) has signed a  Memorandum of Understanding with 49 universities to promote youth towards water conservation and river rejuvenation, Ministry of Jal Shakti said in  a release.

The memorandum of understanding aims to involve students in generating a sustainable ecosystem of rivers.   Addressing the event, Union Minister for Jal Shakti, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat asserted “water is not just an important factor or commodity but no life can be imagined without water and that makes effective water management absolutely essential”.

The majority of India's water resources are used by the agricultural sector, hence demand-side management is essential, said the minister. He emphasised the need for society to practise water conservation and improve water use efficiency. 

The Union Minister mentioned other elements that have an affect on children's growth, such as parents who, in the Indian tradition, used to discuss different facets of life, such as nature, culture, country, duty, etc. It is crucial for teachers to instill respect for natural resources in accordance with our ancient wisdom and practises through educational frameworks since teachers have a significant influence on how students develop. 

To make India a water-wise nation, celebrities, the media, the judiciary, and other sections of civil society must band together and begin discussing and debating issues linked to our natural resources, especially water. In order to raise awareness about the value of water conservation and river rejuvenation, the minister advised holding debates and other competitions in universities. He also asked the top academics to work to make their campuses green and water-efficient.
