The Centre has has said that the COVID-19 vaccination guidelines do not allow for forced vaccination without an individual's consent.

In an affidavit filed before the Supreme Court, the Health Ministry claimed that India's immunisation programme is the world's largest, with 1,52,95,43,602 doses delivered as of January 11, 2022. According to the Ministry, 90.84 percent of eligible adults have received their first dose of the vaccination, and 61% have received their second dosage.

“Furthermore, a total of 23,768 doses have been administered to disabled persons who have voluntarily chosen to be identified as such by using their Unique Disability ID Card/Disability Certificate for registration at the time of their vaccination,” it said.

The Centre told the Supreme Court that it has not published any SOP mandating individuals with disabilities to produce immunisation certificates for any reason.
