NEW DELHI: Union Minister Smriti Irani took the floor during the no-confidence debate in Parliament on Wednesday. In response to Rahul Gandhi's accusations, she asserted that Manipur remains an integral part of India. This comes after Gandhi alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi disregards Manipur's status within India.
Rahul Gandhi stated, "PM Modi's absence from Manipur underscores his non-recognition of the state as part of India."
Expanding his accusations, he proclaimed, "Their loyalty is not to the nation but against it."
In a counter to Gandhi's claims, Irani slammed, "If Rahul Gandhi truly possesses the courage he claims, he should elucidate how the Gandhi family once sought to divide Kashmir."
She emphasized, "You do not define India, as India stands untarnished by corruption. Merit, not lineage, shapes India's course. On this significant day, individuals like you should recall the message conveyed to the British - 'Quit India.' Corruption, quit India. Dynasty, quit India. Merit has now secured its place in India..."
Addressing Gandhi's 'Bharat ek Awaz' (India's Voice) remark, she retorted, "Those who discuss the assassination of Mother India do not thump their desks. Congress members have indeed applauded the assassination of Mother India..."
"What is the Dual-Engine Government Achieving?" Questions Gaurav Gogoi
The first day of the debate regarding the no-confidence motion against the Narendra Modi government witnessed a clash between the Congress and Union Ministers over the ongoing ethnic clashes in Manipur since May.
Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi initiated the no-confidence motion against the PM Modi government in the Lok Sabha, seeking a discussion on the Manipur violence.
Commencing the opposition's discourse on Tuesday, Gogoi queried, "Union Minister Amit Shah established a peace committee - how many sessions did it hold? Manipur's Department of Home has filed an FIR against the Assam Rifles, which operates under Amit Shah's jurisdiction. What progress is this supposed 'dual-engine' government achieving?"
Furthermore, the Congress MP added, "I've learned that Union Home Minister Amit Shah will address the Parliament today. My question to him is this - When he visited Manipur and established a committee of retired Chief Justices from High Courts, what strides has the committee undertaken thus far?"
