Nokia is teaming up with Vodafone Idea (Vi) to significantly expand and improve its 4G network across India. As part of this partnership, Nokia plans to deploy 3,300 new sites by March 2025, enhancing Vi's coverage and data capacity. This expansion is a key step in strengthening Vi’s infrastructure in preparation for its upcoming 5G rollout.

In September, Vi signed a nearly Rs 14,000-crore deal with Nokia to purchase network equipment for both its 4G expansion and future 5G deployment. Under this agreement, Nokia will provide advanced baseband and radio modules, focusing on improving network coverage and capacity across key regions.

Jagbir Singh, Vodafone Idea’s chief technical officer, said on November 13, "Nokia has been one of our key long-term partners, providing exceptional support. We are collaborating closely with Nokia to expand our 4G network coverage to reach an additional 20 million people by March 2025."

Nokia is also set to upgrade more than 42,000 technology sites and expand spectrum on over 25,000 sites to boost bandwidth and data capacity. So far, 100 percent of the spectrum expansion, 40 percent of technology upgrades, and 15 percent of new site installations have been completed.
