According to North Korean state media on Friday, the country has formed a national response committee to prepare for natural disasters such as typhoons and floods.

The members of the ad hoc council for natural disaster prevention and response reviewed last year's relevant actions and analysed what may be improved in a session led by Premier Kim Tok-hun the day before, media source reported.

According to the KCNA report, they stressed that all officials and employees should maintain the "scientific qualities and promptness of the national emergency management system" and properly sketch out methods to cope nimbly with diverse natural disasters.

The North announced a variety of initiatives to boost its farm sector this year during its Workers' Party plenary late last year, despite chronic food shortages.
