New Delhi: In a new step towards self-reliance in defence, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will release another list of defence materials on Thursday. This defence material will be manufactured in the country itself. Earlier, in 2020, Rajnath Singh had released the first list of 101 materials and in 2021, the second list of 108 equipment and other items. Now the third list is probably adding 100 ingredients.

The Defence Ministry said in a statement that the defence material included in these lists will be ensured to be manufactured indigenously by the year 2025. After that, their import will be banned. The lists released so far include guns, aircraft, fighter aircraft and the equipment used in them and onboard oxygen systems. Sources in the Defence Ministry have informed that with the creation of the 100 defence materials included in the third list to be released in the country, Indian companies will be able to get defence orders worth Rs 2.10 lakh crore in the next five years.

Since the release of the first and second lists, the Defence Ministry has given a green signal to 31 projects worth a total of Rs 53,839 crores. The manufacture of defence material involved is being started in the country itself. While work on 83 more projects worth Rs 1,77,258 crores is also in progress. Work on the indigenisation of other defence products totalling Rs 2,93,741 crores will also be taken up over the next five to seven years.
