Android Apps finally gets the ability to work on Chrome OS. This platform includes many required apps which include Microsoft office as well. Chrome is the fast growing Operating system of Google. But still, there are lots of Chromebooks which are not compatible with Microsoft Office apps. In this regard, Microsoft said, “we are working on the issue and very soon all the Chromebooks are able to work with the Microsoft office Apps.”
According to a report published by 9to5Google, some users of Asus Chromebook when tries to download the Microsoft office apps like word, PowerPoint, excel or OneNote, they get the message ‘unsupported on this device’. Users of Chromebook other than ASUS Chromebook are easily downloading Microsoft Apps into their Chromebook. The question arises here “Was Microsoft block some Chromebooks from using these apps”.
"Office for Android is supported on Chrome OS devices via the Google Play Store. While Google Play on Chrome OS is in beta, we are partnering with Google to deliver the best experience for Chromebook users and plan to make the apps available on all compatible devices by general availability," Microsoft told 9to5Google, implying these are just teething issues.
Same as other platforms, Chrome OS devices are capable of opening and editing Office documents for free, but more advanced features will require an Office 365 subscription. These Chrome OS have screens of around 10.1 inch. Devices with a display of more than 10.1 inches, able to view documents free in Microsoft app for anything else they also need to pay subscription prices. Incidentally, the Asus Chromebook Flip comes with a 10.1-inch display and its users will be able to edit Office documents for free, once the chinks are ironed out.
