New Delhi: The Indian Railways has announced the pricing for its new air-conditioned economy class, which would be at least 8% cheaper than the exiting AC 3-tier tickets. These coaches will have 83 berths.

According to a railway ministry official, the newly launched 3AC Economy coach will be linked to all mail, express, and superfast services. So far, 50 of these coaches have been delivered to different zonal railways.

The government stated in a statement that the base price of the 3AC economy coach will be 2.4 times that of the present Sleeper Class of mail and express trains. For a distance of up to 300 kilometres, the base rates for the new class of coaches start at Rs 440 per seat. Based on the distance of travel, these base fares go up to a maximum of Rs 3,065 for a 4,951-5,000-km journey. Other charges such as reservation fee, superfast surcharge, GST shall be levied separately.
