Now, Tunisia confirms first case of Omicron variant virus

Tunisia: The first case of Omicron variant infection has been confirmed in Tunisia. Tunisia's Health Minister Ali Mrabet announced on Friday that a 23-year-old male from a Sub-Saharan African country has been confirmed as Tunisia's first instance of the Omicron Covid-19 strain. According to sources, the person arrived at Tunis-Carthage International Airport from Istanbul, Turkey, as stated by Mrabet in a statement broadcast on Al-Wataniya, the state's central television.

The man was sent to a local hotel after testing positive for the virus at the airport, where he will be subjected to obligatory quarantine, according to the official.

The first instance of the Omicron varient of the coronavirus was confirmed earlier this year in Mexico, raising fears of a fresh wave of infections. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka reported its first incidence of the coronavirus's omicron strain in an unvaccinated person who returned from Nigeria on Friday.

The Cook Islands reported its first case of Covid-19 since the outbreak began on Saturday, as the South Pacific nation prepares to reopen its borders to tourists.
