Guwahati: On August 31, the final list of National Citizenship Register (NRC) was released in Assam. 19 lakh people have not found a place in this list. They have been excluded. The Assam Gana Parishad and the All Assam Students' Union are not satisfied with the demand of NRC in its present form. BJP is also not happy with its form. It was supported by the BJP. Congress is also unhappy with this. NRC was prepared on the orders of SC in which 3.11 crore people were considered as legitimate citizens of Assam while 19 lakh people were excluded. AGP and Aasu believe that many people who have come to India after 1971 have been left out of this list.

These organizations, which are doing politics on the issue of Assam pride, believe that only Assamese should remain in Assam, whereas non-Assamese are predominantly there today. Congress believes that the names of many Indian citizens have also been left out of the list. Among them, there are many people who came to work in tea gardens of Assam from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar decades ago, but they are not considered as citizens of India because they do not have complete papers. Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary, leader of the Congress Parliamentary Party in the Lok Sabha, has appealed to re-examine the claims of those left out of the list. The BJP is unhappy that Hindus are excluded from this list.

Senior Minister of Assam government Himanta Biswa Sarma has demanded that the Supreme Court get at least 20 per cent of the people included in this list of marginal districts and 10 per cent of people from other districts. Although the Supreme Court has already rejected this demand, but the BJP is going to appeal once again. The BJP believes that Muslims are the majority in districts like Dhubri, Karimganj and South Salmara, but only 5 per cent of the people in these districts have been excluded from the list. Whereas, 15 to 20 per cent of the people in Hindu dominated districts like Tinsukhia and Karbi Anglong have been excluded from this list. At the same time, BJP leader Ram Madhav has appealed people not to panic.
