Kolkata: After the arrival of NRC in Assam, now the demand for NRC has also increased in the neighboring state of West Bengal. BJP leaders have launched a campaign to implement the National Register of Citizens in the state. The ruling TMC is strongly opposed to it. The head of the state, Mamta Banerjee, clearly said that at any cost, she will not allow the NRC to be implemented in the state. Mamta gave a big statement on this issue and claimed that people in the state have been frightened by it. In which about 11 people have committed suicide due to fear of losing their citizenship.

Meanwhile, senior BJP leader and general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya claimed that NRC will be applicable in the state but no Hindu will have to leave the country. On the other hand, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) also targeted Mamta for opposing NRC. Mamta Banerjee held a meeting with the officials at Debra in West Medinipur and said that the Block District Officers (BDO) and representatives of the public have been ordered to go from house to house to quell the doubts of the people about fear of snatching nationality when NRC is implemented.

CM clarified that NRC will not be applicable in the state. The state government is talking about people being neither worried nor nervous about NRC. Advertisements related to this are being given on TV and newspaper. It may be known that during the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP President always said that NRC will be applicable in other states including Assam as well as West Bengal. The final list of NRC was released on August 31 in Assam. In which not more than 19 lakh people got a place.
