JOHANNESBURG: During the Friends of BRICS meeting in South Africa on July 24, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval met with top Chinese diplomat Wang Yi to discuss bilateral relations. This meeting followed External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar's recent discussion with Wang in Jakarta about peace in border areas, as India and China have been engaged in a military standoff for over three years.
Doval emphasized the need for collective efforts to address cybersecurity challenges during the Friends of BRICS meeting. South Africa is set to host the BRICS Summit next month. BRICS is a coalition of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
In the meeting with Doval, Wang expressed the importance of enhancing strategic mutual trust, focusing on cooperation, and overcoming obstacles to restore sound and stable development in bilateral relations. China reiterated its commitment to not seeking hegemony and pledged to work with developing countries, including India, to support multilateralism and foster a more just and equitable international order.
Furthermore, Wang made it clear that China has no intentions of seeking hegemony. Instead, the country is committed to collaborating with other developing nations, including India, to promote the principles of multilateralism and democratization in international relations. This collaborative effort aims to foster a fairer and more equitable development of the global order.
In a separate meeting, during the Friends of BRICS meeting, which took place earlier on Monday, Doval urged for collective action in addressing the challenges posed by cybersecurity. The meeting served as a platform for discussing and strategizing ways to tackle this emerging concern effectively.
