New Delhi: On wednesday, the toll of chikungunya deaths rises to 10, with Apollo hospital reporting five deaths in the past three weeks.

According to a source in Apollo hospital, "one 31-year-old patient who died had both dengue and chikungunya, which is a rare occurrence . As well of the five patients who died due to chikungunya, two were from Delhi and three from UP".

"Tests are not required to diagnose chikungunya. It is mostly diagnosed on the basis of clinical history and classic symptoms," an official said.

On the other hand, It was suggested by the absence of the key testing facility in most hospitals that there could be a inconsistency in the number of cases and deaths being reported.
