Odisha clocks 7,071 new COVID-19 cases, highest one-day peak in 7 months

Odisha: The Health Department in Odisha reported 7,071 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, up 46 percent  from the previous day and the highest one-day increase in over seven months.

With the latest infections, the total  caseload has risen to 10.83 lakh, including 707 children, according to a department report. The daily positivity rate increased to 10.25 percent from 6.5 percent the day before. The death toll in Odisha has risen to 8,469, with one more death recorded in the Bolangir district. On June 5 of last year, the coastal state had recorded 7,395 single-day cases.

There are currently 27,216 active cases, with a total of 10.47 lakh people having recovered. According to the report, 69,018 samples have been tested for COVID-19 since Monday.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Tuesday that India had 1,68,063 new COVID-19 cases in the previous 24 hours. The total number of new COVID cases has decreased by 11,660 from yesterday. On Monday, India reported 1,79,723 instances. India administered "9,84,676 'Precaution doses' of COVID ( 5,19,604 healthcare workers, 2,01,205 frontline workers, and 2,63,867 over 60 years) on the first day of rollout (January 10)," as per the Government of India.
