Bhubaneswar: Naveen Patnaik, the chief minister of Odisha, paid a visit to the Nippon Steel Corporation (NSCKimitsu)'s Steel Works while on a week-long trip to Japan to promote investment in his state.

The CM is accompanied by a high-level delegation including the state minister of Industries, MSME, and energy, the CS and several other top officials. The delegation was briefed about the plant and given a tour of the facility, as per the statement.

The state delegation's visit to NSC's Kimitsu Steel Works gave them the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the technologies and procedures the company use to create steel, it said.

The plant was set up on land reclaimed from the sea and used environmentally sustainable green technologies. The sea used to be deeper than 10 metres. The facility includes a sizable campus with surrounding greenery. The plant creates specialised steel products with a wide range of uses, including the automotive industry.

Addressing the occasion, the Chief Minister expressed his admiration for the advanced facility and the commitment of NSC towards excellence in steel production. He spoke about the application of comparable eco-friendly technologies for the new plants in the Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur districts. "The proposed plant will also focus on specialised steel products which will enable downstream industries in Odisha," CM Patnaik said.

Given Odisha's abundant mineral resources and promise in the steel business, he emphasised the tremendous potential for collaboration between NSC and that state. "Furthermore, he gave the NSC representatives assurances of the Government of Odisha's dedication to supporting Arcelor Mittal-Nippon Steel, India's future integrated steel facilities in Kendrapada and Jagatsinghpur in the state of Odisha. In contrast to the existing pattern of exporting iron ore, the projects will consume enormous amounts of the commodity, helping to increase its value within Odisha "the CM said. The Chief Minister expressed his gratitude to NSC for their kind hospitality shown to the delegation and stated his hope that the visit would help NSC and Odisha's relationship to grow.

Leading businessmen from the steel, aluminium, textiles, food and seafood processing, green hydrogen, and green ammonia sectors make up an Odisha business delegation that has joined the official delegation from that state.

Upon his arrival in Tokyo, the capital of Japan, Patnaik expressed his hope that the visit will further solidify ties between Japan and his home state of Odisha and give both parties a chance to explore potential areas of shared interest.
