Odisha government collected the highest-ever state GST collection of Rs 1,714.78 crore in April this year, a 52.20 percent increase over the previous month, according to a top official. In the same month last year, the state GST (SGST) mop-up was Rs 1,126.67 crore. He stated that the collection of goods and services tax in April 2022 broke the previous high of Rs 363.53 crore set in March by a large margin.
'Odisha has also maintained the greatest growth rate of gross GST collection among the major states, with Rs 4,910.23 crore collected in April 2022 compared to Rs 3,849.48 crore collected in the same month last year. It increased by 28%," the spokesman added.
Commissioner of commercial tax and GST SK Lohani stated the gross collection in April this year was the "largest in a month since the start of goods and services tax." CGST collections increased by 45 percent to Rs 1,381 crore during the time, while cess collections increased by 18 percent to Rs 722.40 crore, according to the official.
The mining, manufacturing, and trading sectors have led the way in terms of gross GST increase, according to Lohani, who also noted that regular surveillance and intelligence-based action against evaders have greatly improved taxpayer compliance. However, due to a significant increase in inter-state transactions throughout the month, the IGST monthly settlement has exhibited a negative growth of 89 percent, he said.
The total VAT collection (petrol and liquor) was Rs 232.88 crore in April this year, up from Rs 224.25 crore the previous month, a 3.85 percent increase.
