Odisha Elections 2024: Debunking Rumors About CM Patnaik's Successor
Share:

In the midst of the Odisha election results for 2024, rumors have been circulating about Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik's successor. However, Patnaik has clarified that these speculations are untrue and exaggerated.

When asked about the potential succession of VK Pandian, Patnaik dismissed the notion, stating, "I can't understand these exaggerations. You may have noticed that he is not even standing for elections." He further emphasized, "He is not my successor. I see all of this as exaggerations and falsehoods."

Who is VK Pandian: IAS Officer or Political Strategist?
VK Pandian, a 2000-batch IAS officer of the Odisha cadre, was appointed chairman of the government's flagship Nabin Odisha and Vision 5T programs in mid-February, with the rank of Cabinet minister. Just a month later, he joined the BJD, raising eyebrows and fueling speculation about his future role.

While Patnaik enjoys widespread popularity and acceptance similar to Prime Minister Modi, the BJP is leveraging 'Odiya Asmita' (Odia pride) to address concerns about Pandian's rising influence in the party. From Sambalpur to Bhubaneswar and Nabarangpur to Mayurbhanj, many voters, including BJD supporters, are hesitant about the idea of Pandian succeeding Patnaik.

Patnaik's Health and the Question of Succession
At 77 years old, Patnaik's enduring appeal stems from more than just his welfare schemes. His credibility and "clean" image, having stayed clear of scandals and actively combating corruption within his ranks, have solidified his leadership over the past 24 years. Despite rumors and concerns about his health, Patnaik's commitment to transparency and integrity remains a cornerstone of his tenure.

While some within the BJD and its voter base acknowledge Pandian's strengths, his rapid ascent and role as a key link between the party and Patnaik have caused some internal friction.
