BHUBANESHWAR: In a decisive move, the Odisha government has issued an order for the compulsory retirement of Prasanta Kumar Rout, an Additional Sub-Collector in the Nabarangpur district.

Rout had been apprehended on charges of possessing disproportionate assets amounting to Rs 5 crore. During the raids conducted on June 23, the Vigilance department discovered a staggering cash amount of Rs 3,02,30,800 at Rout's residence in Bhubaneswar and an additional Rs 77 lakh at his Nabarangpur residence. Further investigations revealed that the Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) officer owned five plots, including four in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, as well as a 'benami' plot in Umerkote, Nabarangpur district.

The total value of his bank and insurance deposits exceeded Rs 92.34 lakh, along with the possession of vehicles, jewelry, and household articles worth over Rs 27.27 lakh. Shockingly, the assets in Rout's possession were 500 times higher than his known sources of income, emphasizing the magnitude of his illicit wealth. On June 24, the Vigilance took Rout into custody, and subsequently, the state government implemented this action as part of its zero-tolerance policy towards corruption.
