Odisha Govt clears 9 investment projects worth Rs 1.53 lakh cr

BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha government today, January 19, approved 9 investment projects valued Rs1.53 lakh crore including a Rs38,000 crore proposal of ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India Ltd, an official said.

The high-level clearance authority of Odisha led by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has cleared these projects that would create employment for more than  27,000 people in the state.

The high-level clearance authority has given a go-ahead to 4 projects in the green energy and equipment sector, 2 projects in the paper industries, 2 projects in the metals & minerals sector and 1 project in the Information technology infrastructure sector. The project intents were received during the Make in Odisha Conclave, 2022.

The proposal of ArcelorMittal to build a 7 million tonne per year (MTPA) steel plant in the Jagatsinghpur district of Odisha has reportedly been accepted today, said officials. It is expected that this initiative will provide 11,000 people with employment opportunities.

Similarly, the state has approved Rungta Metals Private Limited's (RMPL) request to invest Rs 1,140 crore in expanding its integrated steel mill in Rairangpur, Mayurbhanj district, from 0.5 MTPA to 1 MTPA.

The proposal from ACME Clean Energy Private Limited, requiring an investment of Rs 58,209 crore, has been approved by the committee. The company wants to build 4,500 MW solar power plants in the districts of Koraput and Kalahandi, and also a green hydrogen factory and a green ammonia plant with a combined capacity of 1.1 million metric tonnes each.
