Odisha Govt Renames Sports Awards with New Guidelines

The Odisha Government has revamped its prestigious sports awards, now known as the 'Rajya Krida Samman'. Announced by the Sports and Youth Services Department, the updated guidelines outline the criteria and categories for the annual awards, which will be given out based on the selection of qualified candidates. The monetary rewards for the awards remain the same.

According to the new guidelines, the Lifetime Achievement Award will offer a cash prize of Rs.3 lakh. Those recognized for Outstanding Performance will receive Rs2 lakh, while Excellence in Coaching will be rewarded with Rs1 lakh.

In addition, five categories will each receive a cash prize of Rs.1 lakh:

  • Best Contribution to Sports Promotion
  • Excellence in Sports Journalism
  • Para-Sports Person of the Year
  • Upcoming Athlete of the Year (Junior Category)

Sports Technical Official/Support Staff of the Year

To qualify, recipients must be residents of Odisha and have no criminal records. Awards can be given once per lifetime per category and may be presented posthumously to the recipient’s next of kin.

The scrutiny committee, led by the Sports Director or the senior-most officer in the department, will consist of five senior officials and coaches. The awards will be presented annually on National Sports Day, August 29.
