Berhampur: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Manoj Kumar Subudhi, Superintendent of Central GST and Central Excise in Berhampur, Odisha, on Thursday for accepting a bribe. Subudhi was apprehended while accepting ₹15,000, the first installment of a total bribe demand of ₹20,000 from a complainant.

The bribe was reportedly demanded in exchange for processing the complainant's GST refund. It is alleged that Subudhi had previously processed a GST refund of ₹1.77 lakh and was demanding the bribe to facilitate the processing of an additional GST refund of nearly ₹3 lakh. The case was registered by the CBI on July 9, and a trap was laid based on the complaint. Subudhi was caught red-handed in Berhampur.

Following his arrest, the CBI conducted search operations at both his residential and official premises in Berhampur and Bhubaneswar, leading to the recovery of incriminating documents. Subudhi is scheduled to appear before the Special Judge for CBI Cases in Bhubaneswar today. Further investigation into the matter is ongoing.
