Odisha: On Saturday, vigilance sleuths arrested an assistant sub-inspector of the Odisha Motor Vehicle Department for allegedly owning Rs 2.24 crore in disproportionate assets, according to the Vigilance Directorate.

Following information that Harekrushna Nayak, the Motor Vehicle Department's ASI in Jharsuguda, had assets disproportionate to his known sources of income, searches were conducted at six locations on Friday.

The department stated in a release that three double-story buildings, five plots, and Rs 4.46 lakh in cash were among the mobile and immovable assets known. It was found that Nayak had disproportionate assets of Rs 2.24 crore, accounting for 440 percent of his recognised sources of income, according to the report.

According to the Vigilance, a case has been filed against Nayak under the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, and an investigation is underway.
